"Thats not fair" said the snail, "I am used to running up and down rocks along the shore, we are on flat ground here. This is to your advantage. If we went to my home by the water, I would win the race easily. I am sure of it. Let’s go there and I will show you and if you win you can have my shell."
After the turtles victorious win he decided he could beat the snail in any race in any place. He didn’t have much use for his shell since he’s so much larger but that didn’t hold him back.
"Fine, lets go to your home and we will race there, I am sure I can still beat you" said the turtle.
They started the race and ran up and down the rocks. The turtle, larger and not used to the steep hills, slid down all the rocks he tried to climb up. The snail stuck to all the rocks and quickly climbed them and won the race.
"I told you I would beat you. Now I get to keep my shell and we are even." said the snail.
“Fine, you were right. We are both fast in our own way” said the turtle.
Authors note
My story is based off of the story Two Fast Runners. In the original story a deer and an antelope race each other. The antelope wins the first race on flat ground and they decide to have a rerun in the place where the deer is from. Not used to weaving in and out of the trees, the antelope goes much slower and loses the second race. My story is very similar to this but with different characters.

Turtle and Snail |
Hi Kaylee!
ReplyDeleteI liked how your characters are both "slower" animals by human standards. I also thought it was civil of them to agree to both be faster in their home land. But the reader does now know what kind of land the turtle lives in where we know tat the snail lives by the water with rocks. I wonder what would happen if they agreed to one more race that combined the two lands who would have won then? Also what if the turtle and snail actually said what some of their past achievements so that the reader will know as well.
Hey Kaylee!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your twist on the original story by making the characters two slow runners compared to two fast runners. I have not read the original story but I still really enjoyed this retelling. Your story was also very easy to read and was really easy to get sucked into. I just wish it was a little bit longer! Good job!
Hi Kaylee! I though that you did a great job on your adaption of Two Fast Runners! I love how you kept the story similar to the original while adding your own details to you new story. I liked how you used dialogue to express the characters. The story was easy to read and was very cute. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteHey Kaylee
ReplyDeleteThis was an interesting twist to the story you covered this week. I love how the story title contradicts the characters since the story is titled Two Fast Runners and the characters used are notorious for being slow, that was pretty witty. I also like the competitive nature the two characters display in the story and how it all comes down one keeping their shell and the other acknowledging the fact that they are fast in their own way. This is kind of like a life lesson in its own entirety, Excellent Job.
